HOSTS CHINA DOMINATE IN FUTSAL, GOALBALL AND JUDO AT ASIAN PARA GAMES
Host nation China prevailed in the Futsal, Goalball and Judo competitions at the recent Asian Para Games in Guangzhou.
China took gold in the Futsal (Football five-a-side) event, defeating Iran 1-0 in a close final thanks to a goal in the seventeenth minute of the match by Wang Zhoubin.
Korea won the bronze medal, beating Japan 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out following a nil-nil draw in regular time.
China also won both Goalball gold medals (men’s and women’s tournaments).
The Chinese women’s team won a round-robin tournament from Japan (silver medallists) and Iran (bronze medallists), while the men’s team defeated Korea 12-2 in the final match. Iran overcame Japan (8-2) for bronze.
In Judo, Chinese athletes won six of the twelve gold medals up for grabs in Guangzhou. The hosts also won five bronzes for a total medal haul of 11. Japan won a total of nine medals – three of them gold – to come second in the overall judo medal table, while Iran took third place with two golds (six medals in total).
Korea, Mongolia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan also won medals.

In addition to the three blind-only sports on the Asian Para Games programme, blind and partially sighted athletes also competed in athletics, swimming, cycling and ten-pin bowling.
