SHOWDOWN GEARS UP FOR IBSA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SWEDEN
Next week sees the start of the 2009 IBSA World Showdown Championships in Handen (Stockholm), Sweden. Players representing fifteen countries from four continents will gather for one of the biggest showdown tournaments ever organised.
The world championships are organised by SIF Synskadades Idrottsförening (The Sports Association For Visually Impaired in Sweden) under a commission from SHIF Svenska Handikappidrottsförbundet (the Swedish Handicapped Sports Association).
Following a clinic for referees and sight classification on Tuesday August 11th and Wednesday August 12th respectively, first round play begins at 8am on Thursday 13th August.
Competition will continue until the men’s and women’s finals on Saturday August 15th. The following countries will compete:
Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iran, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the USA.
