NEWS FROM THE IBSA SHOOTING SUBCOMMITTEE

IBSA Shooting logoUnder the leadership of new chairman Stefan Kopcik from Slovakia, the IBSA Shooting Subcommittee has been very active recently on a number of fronts:

• IBSA Shooting Rulebook – the IBSA shooting rules have been updated to take into account modifications in ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) and IPC (International Paralympic Committee) rules and regulations and other factors. The new rules, approved recently by the Technical Committee and the Executive Board, are available here. They will remain valid until the 2013 IBSA General Assembly.

• 2011 IBSA European Open Shooting Championships: the competition will be hosted by the national blind sports federation and will be held in Nitra, Slovakia, from September 13th to 19th. Click here to view or download the entry form for the championships, or contact [email protected] for further information. A number of countries from Europe and beyond have already confirmed their participation, and if enough nations sign up the event may become World Championships.

• The Subcommittee is planning to conduct a development project at the upcoming Para Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in November of this year to spread the sport to North, Central and South America.

• In discussions with representatives from Brazil at the recent 4th IBSA World Championships and Games, it was agreed to attempt to have shooting for the visually impaired included in the shooting programme at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

The shooting section on www.ibsa.es has also been revamped and now features a presentation of the new shooting rules by the subcommittee chairman and videos to demonstrate how the sport is played.
