IBSA AND IPC TO HOST CLASSIFICATION TRAINING SEMINAR IN FEBRUARY
IBSA and IPC (International Paralympic Committee) are set to host a joint training seminar aimed at classifiers of visually impaired athletes. The seminar is part of the IPC Academy programme and follows on from the first course in July of this year.
The seminars will be held in Bonn, Germany, on February 24th and 25th 2012, and the deadline to apply is Monday January 9th 2012. Certified ophthalmologists and optometrists with a proven record of expertise in low vision and sufficient English skills are invited to attend.

Successful participants on the course will be certified as VI International Classifiers and will be recognized by the IPC and IBSA. They can therefore classify athletes with visual impairment competing in the IPC Sports Athletics, Swimming, Alpine Skiing and Nordic Skiing and in the IBSA Sports Goalball, Judo and Football 5-a-side.
Recognition by other International Federations is currently being sought by IBSA.
When returning the form, applicants must enclose proof of the participant’s qualification as an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Applications are to be submitted through the NPC or IBSA national member to be considered. IBSA and IPC welcome support to candidates to facilitate their registration and participation.
Having considered all applications, IBSA and IPC will inform all applicants if their application has been successful. Please note that there are only a limited number of participant slots available.
Participation in a certification course will be mandatory over the course of the next years for all VI classifiers currently approved by IPC and IBSA. IPC and IBSA will contact classifiers currently certified directly on this subject.
