IBSA Section

Organization

  Executive Structure:

IBSA holds its General Assembly every four years. The Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Federation. Eight General Assemblies have been held to date:

  • Paris, France: April 1981
  • Hurdal, Norway: 27 - 29 May 1985
  • Formia, Italy: 2 - 4 June 1989
  • San José de Costa Rica, Costa Rica: 24 - 26 June 1993
  • Casablanca, Morocco: 14 - 16 July 1997
  • Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: 13 - 15 September 2001
  • Beijing, China: 9 - 11 June 2005
  • Antalya, Turkey: 3 - 4 April 2009

At the last two assemblies, IBSA has also held a Blind Sports Conference. To view the Ratified Conclusions and Recommendations from the first conference in Beijing, click here.

The assembly's wishes are carried out through the bodies set out in IBSA's Statutes (Constitution) and Internal Regime Regulations (By-laws). The key bodies are:

  • Executive Board

    Comprising the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Technical Director, the Medical Director, a representative from each of the Continental Delegations and four members-at-large.

  • Management Committee 

    Comprising the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Technical Director and the Medical Director.


  • Continental Delegations: 

    IBSA has five continental organisations:


    The Continental Delegations' mission is to organise sports events for blind and partially sighted sportsmen and sportswomen in IBSA sports, as well as implementing and consolidating the overall goals of the federation, as they are laid down by the governing bodies.

  Technical Department:


  • Technical Committee

    Made up of the Sports Director, the Chairpersons of each of the sports subcommittees, the Medical Director and one person in charge of youth and student sport.

  • Sports Subcommittees

    Each sport has a subcommittee in charge of developing the sport, ensuring a strong competition calendar, setting the rules of the sport, laying down the sports technical conditions for events, plus many other matters related to their sport.
