TRISCHA ZORN


Trischa Zorn is the most decorated Paralympian in the history of the Games with an outstanding 54 medals (41 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze) to her credit, in addition to eight world records (50m back, 100m back, 200m back, 200m I.M., 400m I.M., 200m breast, 4x50 medley relay and 4x50m free relay). She is a four-time All-American and was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Nebraska . Zorn was an alternate to the 1980 Olympic team (missing a spot by 1/100th of a second) and was nominated as a candidate for Sports Illustrated Woman of the Year in 1988.

Major Achievements:

2000: Sydney Paralympics - four silver medals (100m back, 100m fly, 100m breast and 200m IM), one bronze (50m breast) and fourth place in the 100m free

1999: Southern Cross Games for the Blind (Sydney, Australia) - nine gold and one silver medal

1998: International Blind Sports Association World Championships (Madrid) - two gold, two silver medals and one bronze medal

1996: Atlanta Paralympics - two gold (100m back and 200m IM), three silver (50m free, 400m free and 4x100m medley relay) and three bronze medals (100m free, 100m breast and 4x100m free relay)

1994: International Swim Open - won nine individual events; World Masters-two silver and two bronze

1993: U.S. Olympic Festival - broke the world record in the 100m backstroke

1992: Barcelona Paralympics - 10 gold (50m free (WR), 100m free (WR), 100m back (WR), 200m back (WR), 100m breast, 200 breast, 200IM (PR), 400IM (WR), 4x100m free relay (WR) and 4x100m medley relay (WR)) and two silver medals (400m free and 100m fly)

1990: World Championships (Netherlands) - gold medals in all events, set 11 world records

1988: Seoul Paralympic Games - 12 gold medals (50m free (WR), 100m free, 400m free, 100m back (WR), 50m breast (WR), 100m breast (WR), 200m breast (WR), 100m fly (WR), 200m IM (WR), 400IM, 4x100m free relay (WR) and 4x100 medley relay (WR))

1986: World Championships - set world record in 100m freestyle for the blind

1984: Long Island Paralympic Games - 10 gold medals

1983: Big 8 Swim Champion

1980: Netherlands Paralympics - seven gold medals (100m free (WR), 100m back (WR), 100m fly (WR), 4x100m free relay, 200m IM, 4x100m medley relay (WR), 400m IM (WR))
