Powerlifting is an individual sport and for each age category from the minimum age of 14 years till... At the 1st IBSA World Championships 2000 the oldest participant was Sarah Thompson (Canada) who has the respectfully age of 84 years.

In Powerlifting there are three disciplines: Squat, Bench press and the Deadlift. Each athlete has three attempts on each discipline the best attempt from each discipline together and this gives an end total.

Weight training is a natural means of exercise for the blind, as it requires little start-up expenses and can be achieved at home or in a gymnasium. For the competitive athlete who is looking for an activity that he or she can perform with able-bodied individuals, powerlifting is one of the few sports where a blind person can compete on an equal basis.
