IBSA GEARS UP FOR 8TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND 2ND BLIND SPORTS CONFERENCE
The IBSA family is preparing to travel to Turkey, where the 8th IBSA General Assembly and 2nd Blind Sports Conference are set to take place later this week.
The assembly and conference are organised by local IBSA member GESFED (Turkish Blind Sports Federation) in Antalya, a mediterranean resort on the southern Turkish coast. The meetings begin on Wednesday April 1st with the last gathering of the outgoing Executive Committee, which will discuss final arrangments for the assembly and the motions submitted by members.
On Thursday 2nd April IBSA holds its second international conference on blind sports. This follows on from the successful inaugural conference that took place prior to the 7th IBSA GA in Beijing, China, in 2005.
On this occasion the discussions will focus on ophthalmological classification and the impact the new IPC Classification Code will have on blind sports in general, and particularly on the IBSA Paralympic sports and other Paralympic sports in which blind and partially sighted athletes are involved. A number of expert speakers are scheduled to take part in the event.
The General Assembly proper begins at 09:00 on Friday April 3rd and runs for one and a half days. In addition to discussing and voting on motions from member countries, the assembly will elect the IBSA leadership for the coming four years and discuss the federation’s sports plans for the next quadrennium.
Regional delegations are scheduled to meet on Friday evening under the chairmanship of the corresponding Continental Delegate.
The newly-elected Executive Committee will hold its inaugural meeting at 14:30 on Saturday April 4th.
Proceedings will come to an end on the evening of Saturday April 4th with a gala closing dinner.
