AMY ALSOP
Amy Alsop began playing Goalball in 1994, and she went on to help her local team win five national championships. She joined the Canadian national team in 1997 and along with her teammates Nancy Morin, Contessa Scott, Annette Lisabeth, Amy Kneebone and Whitney Burk built Team Canada into one of the most successful Goalball teams today.
Her outstanding defensive skills have helped Canada win bronze and silver medals at the IBSA Pan-American games in 2001 and 2005 and win silver and gold medals at the 2002 and 2006 IBSA World Championships.
Her most outstanding accomplishments have come at the Paralympic Games. In 2000, she helped Canada post six shutouts on the way to their first gold medal in Goalball. At the 2004 Paralympic Games, Amy continued her strong defensive play, stopping 373 of the 375 shots she faced, which was first among all centers. She also scored 10 goals to lead all centers and placed 3 rd overall in scoring, contributing to Canada's second straight gold medal. The team was awarded the 2004 Canadian Female Team of the Year for all sports, Olympic and Paralympic.
Amy currently resides in Regina, Saskatchewan and is a Market Analyst for a telecommunications company. Away from the Goalball court, Amy enjoys hiking, fishing and cycling. She remains an active promoter of the sport of Goalball in her community and continues to prepare for the upcoming 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.
